Comic Art Profile

Hi, I’m Fauzi Nugraha a.k.a Ozzy. I am an Indonesian comic book colorist, illustrator, and drummer. I was born in Bandung, West Java, Indonesia on 17 February 1995.

hey there, I'm Ozzy!

I’d like to share my journey as a comic artist.

#1 Mid-school beginning

It was all started at junior high school when I used to read superhero comics. I found it very entertaining, as well as exciting. Having found joy in reading them, I began channeling my hobby to drawing comics as well. That’s when I started with comic drawing.

I drew a lot of them from superhero to manga. I drew every day like there’s no other day without drawing.

Being so immersed in superheroes had me triggered with the idea of making a comic book myself. So, I initiated with writing the draft and building characters. Eventually, that scheme ended with 2 mini-comic books. First, “Iron Blade” was inspired by manga, and “Seven” was inspired by Justice League.

#2 I did almost all 2D visual art forms

I gradually extended my technical skills in drawing. Along the way, I also expanded my skill not only in comic but also in realistic portrait drawing using pencils and pens, watercolor illustrations, and visual designs using photoshop. I took some time drawing with china ink and painting with oil as well. Basically, I went through the process when I attempted almost all forms of 2D visual art whether it’s conventional or digital, comics or non-comics before I decided to focus solely on comics.

#3 I never went to an art school

Everything was self-taught. I learned them from the internet, but sometimes I participated in workshops to horn my skills and to network with the artist community.

#4 I was an engineer

I was in two different worlds: engineering and art. I got my job as a network engineer but also part-time as an illustrator, drummer tutor, and comic artist.

I didn't go to art school when my parent asked me to be an engineer. For 11 years I kept it hardcore to find the balance between the two, but passion is passion. It's always calling.

In the end, I was totally aware I can't make everyone happy and I choose what has chosen me since the beginning: comic art.

#5 I am now a full-time comic book colorist

I'd taken this journey as an artist in general to comic book artist, and finally found my deep passion in coloring. When I make an artwork started from sketching up to the end, the moment I'm always waiting is the coloring part. I found sparks of joy when exploring colors and I guess I've discovered my niche since then.

I'm now doing coloring comic pages and illustrations more often although I'm still doing inking in some projects. I'm always being open to growth and endless possibilities.

This is either a happy ending or a thrilling beginning, but I’ve waited for this moment for so long. To be a professional one - I've been preparing gigs by gigs, one project to another, and collaborative works with other comic artists to gain tracks and professional records.

For the last year, I've associated with indie comic studios and individual clients mostly from the US, the UK, France, and Indonesia. Allow me to show you my portfolios here or visit my Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/ozcomicartist/ to see more of my works.

Hit me up for collaboration!
